Our Story
Woodworking has always been an hobby of mine. Being in the military, I never really could have a real shop. When I retired, I told my wife that I really wanted a shop. She has always supported me woodworking. That has not changed. She is also a source of inspiration. She has great taste and always makes the best solution.
The biggest influence on me and my interest in woodworking is my Dad. It wasn’t just woodworking in the normal sense of making furniture etc. It was a time when something broke, you fixed it. He taught me the skills to fix things on my own and solve problems instead of throwing things away. I took every shop class in high school; wood shop, metal shop and small engine shop. With that the seed was planted to fix, create and make.
I would leave home and join the Air Force and serve 26 years. I found myself stationed in many different states, Central America, Europe and I would deploy to the Middle East. I took advantage of the Wood Hobby Shop at many bases building furniture for my family. These hobby shops would provide all the tools I couldn’t afford and they were free to use. I spent a couple of months building a crib / youth bed for my daughter Kathryn. I worked every evening and Saturday. Those hobby shops were a great resource. It is an unfortunate thing that some bases don’t have these anymore.
When I deployed to Afghanistan I remember talking with my Dad. I told him what it is like to deploy and that all our office furniture and walls were made of wood. He wanted to see pictures. I sent him photos of the offices in our main headquarters building with our plywood walls and doors, and our desks made of 2x4s and plywood. He replied, “If it’s made of wood, it’s good.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself Dad.
After I retired from the Air Force, I added a shop to my property. This is a place for me to do what I enjoy; creating. It is a place where I can problem solve and play with designs that are bouncing around in my head. My Dad helped me design and build my shop with his friend Ken. It is my happy place. It is where I remember my Dad and make some pretty cool stuff.
What can I make for you?
